The Artisans
Craft is not a trend — it is a lineage.
In the villages surrounding Jaipur and Jodhpur, every textile, every carved frame, every stitch carries the imprint of hands that have practised their art for generations. Learned young, passed from parent to child, and preserved with devotion, these traditions are not simply techniques — they are identity.
Our pieces are created in collaboration with artisan families who continue Rajasthan’s most treasured crafts: hand‑block printing, natural dyeing, mud‑resist dabu work, and the slow, meditative running stitch of kantha.
In Bagru, a small town just outside Jaipur, the day begins before sunrise. Artisans prepare the dabu mud paste — a mixture of clay, lime, and natural binders — pressing hand‑carved wooden blocks onto cotton with practiced ease. The cloth is laid out to dry in the desert sun, then lowered into deep indigo vats tended by makers whose hands have been stained blue for decades. When the mud finally falls away, the pattern reveals itself: organic, human, and beautifully imperfect. That imperfection is not a flaw — it is the signature of the hand.
In nearby villages, women’s cooperatives work with marigold, rose, and madder to create eco‑printed textiles where every petal leaves its own trace of colour. Like the dabu makers of Bagru, their work is both beautiful and purposeful — providing independence, stability, and a future for their families. A reminder that craft is not only artistry, but livelihood.
These artisans are the soul of The Haveli Room. Their techniques shape our textiles, their stories inspire our collections, and their heritage guides our design philosophy. Every piece you bring into your home carries the imprint of real hands, real craft, and a tradition kept alive through patience, skill, and pride.
We honour their work. We celebrate their heritage.
